单复同形和集体名词有何区别-

单复数同形的单词可以与不定冠词连用

如：There? is? a? sheep? on? the? grassland.

There? are black sheep? eating? the? grass.

集合名词前不能加不定冠词

如：The? chinese? has? a? long? history.

1、单复数同形,顾名思义,就是无论单数还是复数,单词的形式都不变.?

如：.Every means has been tried. 各种方法都试过了.?

All means have been tried. 所有的方法都试过了.?

常见的单复数同形的词：head 头； sheep 羊； deer 鹿； Chinese 中国人

2、集体名词可以分为两类，一类是像police, people这样的专用名词，另一类是像team,group这样的通用"群"名词。通用群名词可后接of短语对其具体化，如:a group of student。

①集体名词虽然有多个成员，但通常是所有成员整体的行为，所以可被理解为单数。

如：His family is large. 他的家是个大家庭.?

His family are all kind and friendly. 他的一家人都很友善.

②形式为单数,但意义永远为复数： cattle(牛,牲畜),people(人),police(警察)……只有单数形式, 但却表示复数意义,用作主语时谓语用复数:?

如：. The police are looking for the murder. 警察在找凶手.?

特别的：? fruit(水果) 作为集合名词,它通常是不可数的.

如：He doesn’t eat much vegetable or fruit. 他不大吃蔬菜水果.?

当要表示种类时,它可视为可数名词,即a fruit 指一种水果,fruits 指多种果.?

Some fruits are rare. 有些水果很稀有.?

The tomato is a vegetable, not a fruit. 西红柿是一种蔬菜,而不是一种水果.
